Camas Water Bill Late Fees Reportedly Suspended Until August

Photo is an illustration of what this “friendly” town feels like to me too often. Actual Camas home, in my neighborhood. Cement barrier landscaping features what appears to be an embrasure in the inner wall, near the front door. I wonder what this fellow thinks about his water bill.

In the wake of a transition to a new billing system, unpaid water bills in the city of Camas will not incur late fees until August.

At least, that’s what a City of Camas employee told me, finally, after two phone calls, then an exasperated in-person visit some weeks ago, after I pressed as to why Camas citizens were being billed for four months’ water use in just over one, when we’re used to paying for two months at a time, every other month. That’s a li’l bit of a tough transition for some of us.

In a followup email, City of Camas Finance Director Cathy Huber Nickerson said late fees would begin “later in the summer,” and disconnection for nonpayment would not happen until August.

This post was going to be a whole Game of Capitalism snapshot, as the frustrating interaction over the water bill was just the start of an interesting run of days for my little fam. Survival in the Game took precedent over writing that post.

I at least want to make sure there is written notification somewhere online that lets my Camas neighbors know we have some leeway on the water bill for a minute, as I can’t find any online communication of this anywhere.
